Major Blockage

What gives a writer “writer’s block”? For the past month or so, I haven’t had the motivation to write. It’s not as if I didn’t have anything interesteing to talk to about. For instsnace, in the past month I’ve traveled to two different cities, gone hiking in the canyons near my home daily, been taking acting classes weekly, and even spent time with a famous person or two.

The most common causes of a writer’s creative “blockage” are

  • fear

  • timing

  • perfectionism

Also, sometimes, life just happens in abundance. The fear of criticism is something that most writers experience. When I’ve had an idea that I felt was too heavy of a subject, I would pass it off for fear of its weight. I must remember that this blog is new, and make more of an effort to write openly; thus gaining the potential to express myself in more explicit ways as I grow more comfortable.

I must confess that I am a writer who is very much what someone would call a “perfectionist”. Only, really, when it comes to my writing am I ever highly critical. I like to be sure I sound the precise way I want readers to hear me. What’s so wrong with that? If ever I find a topic to share in this blog/Diary I already know to give myself time to formulate my notes into words, just as I desire. I suppose, the fact that I need excess time to cater to this trait means I should make some adjustments.

When I created this outlet, I was so exited to expose myself through words. I gave myself a goal to post a Diary log once a day.  Now I remember being told once that to make real goals, I should follow the S.M.A.R.T. Goal setting teqnique:

  • SMART Goal Setting: make sure that your goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

I realize I should give myself a new starting goal of once a week, which I can definitely do. I hear many wise people say that if something doesn’t work for them, they change it right away. It depends on how much you want something to work. This blog is, I believe, one thing in my chaotic, beautiful, wildly un-common life I want to work.
